About us
Grand View House was built in 1889 by young Bob Murrell to provide a guesthouse for visitors to Manapouri, Fiordland and the surrounding area. The house has continued to be operated as bed and breakfast accommodation since this time by each generation of Murrells and Bob's great grandson Robert Murrell now operates Grand View House with his wife Philippa. The house features many historic photographs and paintings showing previous generations of Murrells and locations of interest in the Fiordland region.
Manapouri is a small township with approximately 200 permanent residents. Guests find our location extremely useful as we are only a 6-minute walk from the departure point for Doubtful Sound tours and Te Anau is only a 20-minute drive. It is an ideal location for a peaceful and relaxing break and perfect for exploring all that Fiordland has to offer. Guests can walk from the house to Lake Manapouri and the beach. A short drive provides access to one of NZ’s Great Walks – the Kepler Track - and other walks are available in the area. Manapouri has a petrol station/mechanic, small shop/café, bookshop, antique/second-hand shop and a bar/café and is the departure point for all Doubtful Sound cruises
Accommodation with history, comfort and convenience. A truly unique place to stay.
