Fiordland National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Area
Lake Manapouri is New Zealand's second deepest lake and has a circumference of 170 kilometers. It's been named New Zealand's most beautiful lake!
Manapouri is the departure point for Doubtful Sound excursions which leave from Pearl Harbour on the Waiau River just minutes from our accommodation at Murrells Grand View House. The small township of Manapouri has around 400 residents and is served by local amenities such as a petrol station, shop and bar/cafe. Manapouri is also home to the Bookseller at the End of the World - the title of a recent book by long time local Ruth Shaw. Two Wee Bookshops has many wonderful books and is well worth a visit. We also have a fabulous Alpaca Farm where you can get up close and personal to the Alpaca and also purchase beautiful items made from the yarn. Manapouri is located on the Southern Scenic Route, a stunning drive between Dunedin and Queenstown taking in the wonderful Catlins Coast. The beauty of the Southern Scenic Route is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, with frequent breaks, short walks and overnight stays along the way. Murrells Grand View House is the perfect location to stay for visiting the many unique locations thoughout Fiordland and Southland. Murrells Grand View House has unsurpassed magnificent views of Lake Manapouri and the surrounding mountains. The house is set in 3 acres of gardens providing plenty of space and privacy in which to relax and unwind. |
